Sandburg Middle School

Principal's Message

Welcome to Sandburg Middle School’s website!  Sandburg is a California Distinguished School where staff, students, parents, and community work together to provide a caring learning environment for all our students.  Sandburg is one of two grades 6-8 middle schools located in the Glendora Unified School District.  Glendora is a family-oriented community nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in eastern Los Angeles County.  Sandburg enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year is approximately 850 students.  GUSD offers rigorous, innovative academic instruction, a four-year college-going culture, and a varied slate of extracurricular activities.

Middle school is a critical time both educationally and emotionally for students.  At Sandburg, we continually seek to provide and support students with enriching experiences including engaging lessons, hands-on learning, science camps, clubs, athletics, student government, music, technology, and a sister-city exchange program with Nakamura Junior High in Moka, Japan.

The Sandburg staff continues to focus on our commitment to educate the whole child.  Teachers meet regularly to evaluate our program as well as seek new avenues for improvement.  We use multiple assessments to evaluate student learning and guide instruction, culminating in a rich learning environment.

We are proud of our school and all it has to offer, including this website that will, we trust, keep you fully informed of what is happening at Sandburg.  Our website is managed by our very own Lisann Francisco, 6th grade Social Studies teacher and Site Technology Facilitator.

You can also gain our student's perspective by visiting our student-generated website at www.spartanweeklynews.com.

Please call us at 626/852-4530 or e-mail me at sbell@glendora.k12.ca.us if I can assist you or your child in any way.
