Absences and Tardies

Types of Absences
Absences for proper causes are listed in the State Education Code

Excused Absences/Tardies: Absences for illness, medical, dental, or optometric appointments.

Unexcused Absences/Tardies: Absences/Tardies that occur with the knowledge and approval of the parent/guardian, but are not deemed excused under State law. Unexcused absences/tardies are not classified as truancy.

Truancy: An unapproved absence, which is an intentional and planned violation of State attendance laws.

Zero Period Attendance: Zero period attendance is subject to the same standards as all other periods.

On any morning that your child will be absent, we ask that you call the school by 9:00 to let us know. This way the student's absence is cleared upon their return and there will be no need for you to write a note. Please call (626) 852-4530.

If, for any reason, you can not call the office, the student must bring a note to the attendance office window before school on the day s/he returns. The note should contain the date written, reason for absences, date(s) of absence, and parent/guardian signature.

Any absence that that is not cleared in 3 days upon return to school becomes an unexcused absence.
